Extended French/Immersion

Fly Fishing Club

The Saint Francis Fly fishing club is catching on.  This year, Saint Francis has another first for the city and the province, our first high school fly fishing club.  While such clubs exist in other provinces, so far this is the first in Alberta.  Students and staff are welcome to learn this lifelong activity from two experienced instructors.  This fall, students learned all the basics of casting a fly rod; followed by a field trip to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.  Some big rainbow trout were caught and released; but more importantly, new interests were formed.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Mr. Lawrence or Mr. Arsenault at the school.

International Languages

We are always looking for enthusiastic members with new ideas.  Activities include participation in various cultural activities such as pot luck lunches, Spolumbo’s day, pain au chocolat day and festivals!  No experience or second language is needed to join.

Staff Advisor:  Mrs. Marie West

Media

The Media Club at Saint Francis has been busy the past couple of months.  They videotaped the Fall Pep Rally, the Bamfield trip and the Music Christmas Concert at the Rozsa Centre.  They have also videotaped Junior Football as requested by the coaches and taken still pictures at every Saint Francis event.   We have ten dedicated volunteers and at least eight who have been able to give time to putting the Saint Francis 2007-2008 School year onto digital form.  In the new year they will begin work on the Athletic Awards presentation, the grad presentation and SFI 2008.  DVDs of the Christmas concert and the Bamfield trip will be  available for $5.00 each in the New Year.   Since they are reproduced out of school, we need to have the payment before the order can be placed.

Students with a photography, video or technological interest are encouraged to join the media club.  Meetings will be every second Friday in the library.  Stop in and see Mrs. Abercrombie to learn more.  You can find her in the library.

Staff Advisor:  Mrs. Corrine Abercrombie

 Model UN

This club meets several times from October to February to prepare for the High School Model United Nations simulation that is hosted  by the University of Calgary at the end of February.  Students assume the role of delegates representing a variety of countries and meet over a weekend to role play the decisions made in 5 different United Nations councils.

Yearbook

The yearbook club is off to a great start this year. Several members attended a workshop at the end of September where we learned the ins and outs of yearbook software. We are still recruiting photographers, reporters, and a junior editor. There are many pages still to be assigned, so we welcome anyone that wants to help out. Putting together a yearbook is a big job, but it is lots of fun! Watch for the after-school workshops. Last year’s yearbooks have arrived and are available for pick-up in Student Services.

If you are creative and would like to help make a memory to last forever, the Yearbook Committee is for you.  Positions include photographers, journalists, layout designers and more.
