School Council

All parents with children attending school are members of their local school council and are encouraged to participate in council activities. Councils usually meet on a monthly basis.

School Councils are established in all schools and serve as a vehicle for parents, principals and teachers to meet and work together towards common goals.

High School 101

Definitions

  • School Year - Sept. 4, 2007 to June 26, 2008

  • Semester - the school year is divided into two semesters

    • Semester 1 - September 4, 2007 to January 29, 2008

    • Semester 2 - January 30, 2008 to June 26, 2008

  • final exams are scheduled at the end of each semester

  • dates may be subject to change

  • VID's (acronym) and lanyards - Visual Identification on a lanyard.  Students are also issued a identification card that is for their wallet or pocket

  • D2L (acronym for Desire to Learn) - A web based platform which provides learning materials and opportunities for student interaction with curricular areas.  This platform also allows students and parents to view their academic progress in each subject.

  • Home Logic - A web based platform for students and parents to view student attendance

  • TA (acronym for Teacher Advisor) - A teacher mentor who journeys through the three years of high school with the same group of students.  Their role is to advise, communicate and advocate for the student.
